The unique AO Compact progressive is designed to provide outstanding optical performance in small
frames.
With AO Compact, you can dispense a small frame and still obtain a full-powered reading area.
That's because the corridor measures 13 mm - 4 mm less than the industry average. In fact, in the
example shown (following), you get an average near zone depth of 6 mm - without exceeding the
recommended add power.
Better by design,
not by accident
The AO Compact design incorporates significant advances in balanced peripheral optics. Surface
astigmatism and distortion are stringently controlled.
• Softer design at distance and intermediate
American Optical's patented smoothing technology creates an extremely soft unified geometry. As
there is no perceptible transition from distance to mid-range, adaptation is immediate.
• Lower surface astigmatism
Astigmatism actually decreases toward the lateral mid-range peripheries, providing greater
clarity and an unrestricted visual field.
• Enhanced optics
The AO Compact design has achieved near-perfect balancing of power and astigmatism both nasally
and temporally.
• Variable inset
To ensure that the monocular reading areas of both eyes fully overlap, the inset of the reading
field of AO Compact varies with base.
